Ootes & Henderson take out Sewell Handicaps

Because of the bitterly cold weather the Sewell Handicaps were conducted as Sealed Handicaps. In the Open 6.4km race Christian Strzadala was a comfortable winner from Dean Rossato and Dean Pepplinkhouse. The handicap honours went to Sophie Ootes who just keeps improving and she was 5th Eureka across the line and took out the handicap by 34 seconds from Michael Till with the consistent Dean Rossato finishing in third. Issac Rossato took line honours in the the 3.2km event which may have been a little longer in length than that. Nash McGrath made sure that Rossato did not have things all his own way and pushed Rossato to the finish with just 3 seconds separating them. Amy Canavan took third placing across the line. The sealed handicap saw Ebony Henderson put in her best run of the season to win comfortably from Nathan Armstrong with Isabella Till just edging Nash McGrath for third. In the Novice 1.6km event Charlie King was too good and took out the race by almost a minute from Noah Pepplinkhouse with Logan Pepplinkhouse in third. Leo Strzadala put in a fine race in his first club run to finish fourth.
At Bundoora Charlotte Streat placed 23rd in the U14 girls event and will still have ext year in this race. Ben Morane, Ben Ludbrook and Jack Diamond all had dreadful luck at the start of their races and had to work hard to get through the huge fields. Hopefully at least 2 of them should make the Victorian Team. Gracie Lee Egner also placed 20th whilst Jordan Mayston put in a much improved run in the Open event. Tania Warrick also put in a strong run on the women’s 10km.
